We had the opportunity to head out to San Francisco last week and get some hands on time with Mafia II with 2K. You can check out our preview at the following link:
 
 
While I tried to mention as much as I could from our hands on time, there are still many things that I am sure folks will have questions about. So feel free to answer. Once the preview is posted I'll begin answering questions. I can't promise an answer to every question but I can do my best for the time I had with the game. Be sure to check out the preview first as it may answer some of your questions.

I'm glad there putting out a demo. It seems like I've been waiting an eternity for this game.
BTW if Cougars outfit involves a G string and a pushup bra, I don't want to see it. I don't want to have nightmares.

I don't think I have ever been so engrossed with a video game story as I was with Mafia 1. It was the only game that shocked me and made feel a little bit depressed when I finished it.

I'll tell ya, Mafia II's storyline is just as engrossing and entertaining. I am really looking forward to playing this game.

Yes. Its a whole new storyline. All of the characters are introduced as you come across them. Its very good.

Yeah That's what I read also on the Mafia 2 website forums. I never played the first one so at first I was a little concerned.

The Mafia 2 Demo just went live today!

I can't wait to download it and play it over and over again until August 24th rolls around.

What timing!

Judging from the demo, it took me little bit to get used to how the game controlled. (I'm used to GTAIV and Red Dead after all) But after getting in tune with them, I had a blast playing this.

Great music, great voice acting and a city that feels believable. Throw in the cliffhanging end of the demo and I really want this game in my collection!

You were right Cougar. This game doesn't disappoint.

Yeah the controls were a little confusing at first but I got used to them. I guess I wasn't too thrilled about the demo only because it was an earlier video that was released, so I knew what was coming. I'm still excited about the game though, I can't wait till the 24th.

It is pretty fun. It sets up a pretty cool scenario for you to go through and lets you explore the city a little bit. As Jester said, the controls are pretty awkward at first, but once you get accustomed to them you will be having some fun.

The only thing that hindered the demo was that is was timed. I am not a fan of timed demos. I would rather just be blocked to off to an extremely small section of the city and be able to play around in that area for as long as I want.

Actually the only timed part was when you were driving from the house to the wharehouse. You only had 10 minutes to explore the city, not much time to go and get a good look around and from what I've read Bay City is gonna be huge so I'm sure it wasn't even worth it to really go and explore. I didn't like the fact that you couldn't change the view while driving. I like having the look from the drivers perspective. I drive a truck for a living so I guess I'm just used to having it this way, I couldn't drive my truck if I was sitting on top of the trailer. I thought  the cars looked authentic, except of course for the names and they sound real good as well. The "A" button for taking cover felt really smooth to me, I'm also hoping that there will be different levels of difficulty. The characters looked real good as well, lots of detail in facial expressions. I realize this was only a demo, but so far I liked what I saw.

For me, I really wanted to go into a lot of those shops that were spread around that area just to get a taste of what kind of side missions and/or activities you could do. I don't like having timers or being rushed to explore areas.

I believe the Saints Row 1 demo, (ancient) only ended after you did the story mission. It had you enclosed in a very small area, but let you play around with some of the weapons, shops and vehicles that were within it. It's a demo, so it's trivial. I just want more of Mafia 2 darn it!!!


*UPDATE*
After playing it a couple of more times, the timer really doesn't bother me. I think it's set up very similar to Mafia 1 structure wise. I am cool with having a really great narrative as opposed to a plethora of side diversions with no depth to story.

The demo was very enjoyable, IMO. I was one of the people who didn't really like how open Red Dead Redemption was. I prefer city environments with tons of buildings, pedestrians, vehicles, etc. The city in Mafia II felt very immersive to me. You walk out the door of your house and there is a guy selling newspapers, and a guy walks up to him, reaches for money (though I don't think you can see it), hands him said money, and then takes the newspaper. That's very cool to me. It's a little touch, but it goes a long way to immerse you in this world.
