Who is Joe Danger? Well, he is only the world’s greatest stuntman of course. Hello Games delivers another installment of this fun and quirky side scroller that will have you completing stunts in a variety of ways as well as using different equipment rather than just a motorcycle. You’ll have a bunch of parody style movie sets to traverse as Joe sets forth to make the action movie of the year. Get bored with that and you can create your own movie sets and share them with your friends.

If you haven’t played the first title which released on XBLA a while back then you are in for a real treat. If you did play the first title then you are in for a treat as well with the new stunts and equipment that will be at your disposal. The game is much bigger and offers so much more content and the ability to share levels with your friends. You can easily pour many hours of your life into this game and still not achieve all of the goals.

The game is bright and colorful and pops right out of the television when you play it. Just the movie themes alone and the movie posters that go along with them are perfectly compiled. I love the fact that every movie scene that you play is a parody name of a real life movie. For instance, you play the role of an adventurer that looks a lot like Indiana Jones. You’ll ride in a mine cart across the level which is Temple of Boom. Lots of explosions and action will take place in this level as with every level. The game just looks great from start to finish and each level is masterfully hand crafted and actually built using the in-game level editor.

In the career mode or Movie Mode as it’s called, you’ll run through a variety of levels across many different movie backdrops. There are challenges for you to complete and some of these are pretty difficult to attain, especially in your first run through. You’ll be collecting letters that spell danger, collecting stars, finding hidden objects and trying to finish the level in under par time. As you complete levels and earn stars you will unlock new levels for Movie Mode.

The Deleted Scenes option are the levels that didn’t make it in Movie Mode but the folks at Hello Games felt that you should get to play them anyhow. So the scenes you find here were tossed into the cyber waste bin but then brought into the game for you to enjoy. There are some real quirky and odd levels in this mode but all the same they are fun. I will tell you though that frustration levels will quickly elevate in this mode so be prepared.

The Movie Maker mode allows you to use the editor tool to design your own levels. You’ll choose a movie backdrop and then start dropping in obstacles. You get to pick what kind of vehicle or apparatus that Joe Danger will use whether it’s a pair of skis or a motorcycle or something else. The selection of items you have to choose from is huge and there is everything from ramps to trampolines. You can test it out and then adjust the level before finally saving it and uploading it for the world to see and play. This is where most people will end up spending their time and the editor is fantastic.

There are plenty of leaderboards, one for each and every level actually. When starting a level you’ll see the ghost of the top spot on the leaderboard for that specific race. It’s basically in the form of a comet and not so much a ghost so you won’t see where they are pulling off tricks and stuff. You will however see how they completed the level and pulled off some objectives. Once you have completed a level and achieved a main objective then you too will have a ghost and hopefully it was fast enough to take that top spot.

One of the only downsides to the game really is the frustration level you will obtain. Your blood pressure will rise when you get to a level and have to start over and over just because of one obstacle. My issue was when I got into the jumping and ducking sections. I would always screw something up and most times it was because I would do the opposite of what I was supposed to do. But this isn’t a technical issue at all so don’t misunderstand me. This game is great, just be sure your blood pressure medicine is in full stock. The only other issue I have is the fact that multiplayer is just locally played only. Sure it can be fun with 3 other players on the same console, but this game really does scream online multiplayer. I do like how the game interacts with the leaderboards though even being a local multiplayer game only.

Joe Danger 2 The Movie will cost you 1200 Microsoft Points but it’s well worth it. It’s rock solid on every aspect from gameplay to visuals. The content can be endless in this game especially if you have a lot of friends who own the game as well. With the amount of levels you can create and the ability to download levels from other players you’ll be making movies forever. I think the variety in gameplay is fantastic whether you are on a pair of skis, in a mine cart, using a jetpack or just buzzing on a motorcycle. You’ll always be looking for new ways to increase your level time and climb the leaderboards. I love this game and it’s a fun little game to play when you need something different. Notice I did not saying relaxing! Check out Joe Danger 2 and start making your own movies. And while you are at it, you may even want to check out the original Joe Danger Special Edition.
