Alan Wake: American Nightmare (1/16/2012) - Rick Wallace

Alan Wake is back. Only one word needed to describe this game. Outstanding! Yes, Alan Wake American Nightmare is coming to XBLA on February 16th as part of the XBLA promotion House Party. This is not Alan Wake 2 for those that decide to label the game in such away. In fact it’s a spin off that will lend to the story that the original title created but it also is a standalone product itself. Alan Wake fans both new and veterans of the series will find something to take away from this downloada...

The Witcher 2 (6/30/2011) - Rick Wallace
E3 was full of good looking games from hall to hall and wall to wall. Along with many other great games, I had the chance to sit in and see the demo for the Witcher 2 for the Xbox 360. The Witcher 2 is scheduled to be released by the end of 2011 which is pretty amazing since the PC version just came out in May. The folks at CD Projekt RED gave us a brief glimpse at the game and how we will see it on the Xbox 360. Atari is publishing the game in North America while THQ is publishing the game in W...
Backbreaker: Vengeance (6/22/2011) - Rick Wallace
E3 gave me a chance to sit down with the newest installment of the Backbreaker franchise from 505 Games and NaturalMotion Games, Vengeance. Backbreaker: Vengeance is a compilation of mini games and is set for launch on XBLA on June 29th. You’ll get 3 types of game modes or some will call mini games where your goal is to set the highest score you can. The game looks and feels like the original but takes on a whole new level of polish in the controls, game engine, gameplay and visuals. I was high...
War of the Worlds (6/14/2011) - Rick Wallace
Hunker down into your homes because an alien invasion is imminent. Other Ocean Interactive is bringing us a new adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells story War of the Worlds. They are best known for their work on Dark Void Zero, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Super Monkey Ball. With the backing of Paramount Digital Entertainment, Other Ocean is able to pull out all the stops for development. The game's original idea was to be a 16-bit graphical style to really add in a sense of old school...
Star Trek (6/10/2011) - Rick Wallace
E3 2011 definitely showed off some great games and ones that will be first day purchases for most gamers. I had the opportunity to sit down with Paramount Digital Entertainment and get a first look at the new Star Trek game that is coming to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2012. The demo was a pre-alpha build but if they wouldn’t have told me that I would have thought it was further along in development for sure. This is the first Star Trek game that will immerse you into a co-operative experience p...
Gears of War 3 (4/17/2011) - Corey Wallace
Gears Of War fans, it's time to get your Lancers locked and loaded. April 25th is coming fast, and that can only mean one thing. The Gears 3 online beta finally makes it's public launch. Now of course if you have a copy of BUlletstorm you'll gain access to the beta on April 18th. We have had the privelage og having access prior to the public launch over the past week and we are here now to give our impressions to you. Epic games has done it again by creating an amazing looking, and feeling, onli...
Swarm (3/20/2011) - Rick Wallace
We had an appointment to go check out Swarm in the UTV Ignition entertainment booth at PAX East. I am so glad we did because I am really looking forward to this game. The game is developed by Hothead Games whom you may recall has done such titles as Deathspank and Precipe of Darkness. Last year at PAX Prime, we were able to watch the developers walk us through some of the levels and explain the concept of the game. The crowds watching the demo were huge in Seattle, so I expected quite a turnout ...
The Darkness 2 (3/20/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
The Darkness II was recently revealed by 2K and was on display at PAX East in Boston. The lines were long and the buzz was in the air about the dark and evil sequel. We got a sneak peek of the title with a developer walkthrough and then got some hands on time. For those that are fans of gore and dark stories, then this title will definitely be right up your alley.

You will once again take on the role of Jackie Estacado. The game definitely stays close to its comic book origins in the st...
F.E.A.R. 3 (3/17/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
While visiting the Warner Brothers Booth at PAX East we got some hands on time with F.E.A.R. 3. We didn’t have a chance to play any single player, but did get some hands on time with a co-op mode called “The Wall”. The name of the level we played was called “F*ckin’ Run”. So with the title of the level you can tell this is definitely an “M-Rated” title which I don’t think anyone expected any less. I’ll get into the hands-on in a few paragraphs.

Graphically the game looked great and ther...
Mortal Kombat (3/16/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has resurrected a classic with the new iteration of Mortal Kombat. They have gone back to the roots of the game and brought it straight into 2011 using things that made the franchise so popular originally. But they’ve added plenty of new with the old and given us what looks to be a fantastic game. The thing that is great is that even though this is a brand new game it still holds that Mortal Kombat aura about it which is something fans of the series will...
Duke Nukem Forever (3/14/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
I can honestly say I had given up on seeing a Duke Nukem game ever again in my life time just as everyone else did. Then I was told we have an appointment at PAX East with 2K Games to try out Duke Nukem Forever. I thought that the site owner was playing some cruel April fool’s joke. Sure I saw the footage and read all the internet hoopla, but I still was not sold on whether this title would actually come to fruition. When we got to the 2k booth I realized that the game was a reality and the lin...
Dishwasher Vampire Smile (3/13/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
Today as PAX East was wrapping up, I decided I was going to roam the show floor a little. I came across the SKA Studios booth and there was the sequel to my all time favorite XBLA game, The Dishwasher: dead Samuri. The new game is called Dishwasher: Vampire Smile and brings back the gameplay and characters I loved so much in the first game. I had the opportunity to play co-op with the creator of the Dishwasher series, James Silva. For those that do not know, he designed and developed both game a...
LA Noire (3/13/2011) - Rick Wallace
Last year Rockstar Games released a game that no one thought would do well. It was called Red Dead Redemption and if my memory serves me well, it did ok in the retail market. Ok, that’s a bit of an understatement. Well here we are a year later and it looks like Rockstar Games is at it again trying something new with LA Noire. We asked the guys at Rockstar what genre they would consider the game and they really didn’t have an exact answer. After a few seconds it was decided by the devs that it’s ...
SkullGirls (3/12/2011) - Ira Yamchuk
We had the pleasure of getting some hands on time with upcoming XBLA game SkullGirls at the Autumn Games booth this weekend at PAX East. SkullGirls is a 2D style fighter that was built from the ground up using a 3D engine. The 3D engine gives the game real time lighting effects, actual moving shadows and and a full color palette. While the game is in its early stages it definitely could have passed as the final build. It was extremely smooth and easy on the eyes with no framerate issues at all. ...
Jimmie Johnson's Anything With An Engine (3/11/2011) - Rick Wallace
We visited with Autumn Games during our visit to PAX East and were pleasantly surprised by the 2 games they were showing. On display were two impressive XBLA games each of which will be coming at some point in 2011. I had the opportunity to get hands on with “Jimmie Johnson’s Anything With An Engine” and have to say I left the booth pretty excited for the game.

JJ’s Anything With An Engine is a kart racer which many will say resembles Mario Kart in many ways. Autumn Games will not deny ...
Homefront (1/27/2011) - Kirby Yablonski
Preview Courtesy of Canadian Online Gamers (See Below)

Homefront, a new IP developed by Kaos Studios, is a game I had the opportunity to preview back in October. Back then we were treated to the first part of the single player experience and if you read my preview then you’d know that I quite liked what I saw and have some high hopes for the final product. Well last week, at THQ Gamer’s Week, I was lucky enough to get some hands on experience with Homefront’s multiplayer features and pl...
WWE All-Stars (1/26/2011) - Kirby Yablonski
Preview Courtesy of Canadian Online Gamers (See Below)

At THQ’s Gamers Week, I had the chance to play WWE All-Stars, a game that is a wild and arcady take on the world of wrestling developed by THQ San Diego. After taking the game for a spin, I have to say that this is not your father’s wrestling game, and in many ways I think it will find some attention from those diehards who love their sim-oriented SmackDown vs. Raw games.

Right off the top you will notice that the wrestlers...
Red Faction: Armageddon (1/25/2011) - Kirby Yablonski
Preview Courtesy of Canadian Online Gamers (See Below)

Red Faction: Armageddon was another game I was lucky to get a chance to play while attending THQ’s Gamers Week. Once again developed by Volition, the story takes place two generations after Red Faction: Guerilla. Things have changed on Mars as there is a new tyrant trying to take control, new areas to explore, and a whole new breed of enemy for you to fight.

If there is one thing that I have to say about the 2009‘s Red Fact...
nail'd (11/10/2010) - Rick Wallace
Multiplayer Preview

Deep Silver and Techland are releasing a brand new offroad racer at the end of November that is guaranteed to knock your socks off. Not only is the gameplay fast and furious, but it’s a ton of fun to play. We have been playing this for 2 weeks now and are highly impressed with every aspect of the game. One of the most intriguing aspects of the game is the multiplayer. Nail’d not only offers upa superior multiplayer experience but they’ve also done something that no o...
Alan Wake (7/22/2010) - Rick Wallace
Previously on Alan Wake...

We learned of Alan’s struggles in the town of Bright Falls as he searched high and low for Alice, his lovely female companion. For those that finished the game, you were left scratching your head and wondering what would become of our hero and other characters. Well, here we are 2 months later and the first DLC is arriving on the scene and so many people just want to know what the ending to Alan Wake meant. I’ll tell you right now that some of your questions a...
Mafia II (7/20/2010) - Rick Wallace
On Thursday, July 15, 2010 2K invited us to San Francisco to get some hands on time with Mafia II. The event was held at the Mezzanine SF Nightclub located in downtown San Francisco. We had the opportunity to sit down with the game for about four hours and I honestly don’t think I even scratched the surface of what the game has to offer.

Mafia II takes you into the life and struggles of Vito, his family and friends during the 1940’s and 1950’s. Vito returns to Empire Bay after a st...
nail'd (7/2/2010) - Rick Wallace
I am a sucker for offroad games whether its MX, buggies or ATV’s. So when I visited SouthPeak’s booth at E3 to get hands on time with the new offroad title “nail’d” I was very excited. This new ATV racer brought to us by Deep Silver and Techland is a fast paced action thrill ride. The game is all about speed folks and honestly at times I couldn’t even keep up with it. Yes, it can be that fast but that’s what makes it fun and exciting. You’ll have to be quick with your reflexes and think fast at ...
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 (6/30/2010) - Rick Wallace
While visiting the Ubisoft Booth at E3 this year we got to see many of the great titles that Ubisoft has on tap for us including the newest addition to the Tom Clancy Series, HAWX 2. As you remember, the original HAWX was the first Tom Clancy title to take to the skies in modern day aerial warfare. Well, now the second title is coming and it looks fantastic in every way possible.

The main focus and intent of HAWX and any Tom Clancy title is to give the gamers a true to life experience b...
Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos (6/24/2010) - Rick Wallace
A few years ago, Captain Sig Hansen and Greenwave games brought a whole new strategy game to the Xbox 360 with Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm. The game suffered from a few issues but even more so it just didn’t have the stuff to attract the general Xbox Live community. Sure it had online play and for those that were really into the show and strategy games it really was a lot of fun. But for the casual players out there the game just did not appeal.

Well here we are 2 years later and Cra...
Power Gig: Rise of the Six String (6/24/2010) - Rick Wallace
One of my first appointments at E3 was sitting down with the folks at Seven45 Studios and trying out their brand new game Power Gig: Rise of the Six String. Power Gig is another music game similar to Rock Band and Guitar Hero but with some major differences. The game introduces us to brand new instruments which includes a guitar controller that also moonlights as a real guitar when connected to an amp. The other instrument is the brand new AirStrike drumless drumset. Yes, I said it is a drumless...
Yoostar 2 (6/21/2010) - Rick Wallace

This past week at E3 we had the pleasure of attending a behind closed doors session with the folks of Yoostar Entertainment Group. The first edition of Yoostar is strictly a PC title in which you had to purchase the Yoostar system and then purchase new scenes via digital download from Yoostar.com. The Yoostar system included 20 scenes, a studio grade web cam, portable green screen and stand, and a remote control.

Well now we welcome YooStar 2, but this time it'll be available on our c...

Alpha Protocol (5/2/2010) - Brandon Russell
Sega along with Obsidian are preparing to unleash their new Espionage RPG to the world, Alpha Protocol. We have only seen little bits and pieces of the title, including a brief glimpse of it at PAX East back in March. Well, now we have a preview copy in hand and it’s time for us to let you know what we think of this up and coming title. We’ll keep a spoiler free preview for you so that you can enjoy the game when it comes out. We’ll mostly stick to the game graphics, sounds and gameplay options ...
Alan Wake (4/29/2010) - Rick Wallace
Alan Wake has been in the making for quite a few years, and now finally fans will get hands on in just a few short weeks. Microsoft Game Studios and Remedy Entertainment bring you the Xbox 360 exclusive thriller storytelling saga, Alan Wake on May 19th. But we got our hands on the game, and here is a preview of the introductory level known as Episode One - Nightmare. You’ll only begin to scratch the surface of a “dark” secret this town of Bright Falls holds when your wife Alice goes missing and ...
Two Worlds 2 (4/2/2010) - Rick Wallace
RPG’s are really popular right now on the Xbox 360 and we have our fair share of good and bad titles. A few years ago, Two Worlds made an appearance on the Xbox 360 and had the potential to be one of the great titles available. It could have even competed with the likes of Oblivion had it not so many bugs and issues. The inner core of the game was fantastic, but the problems associated with the game turned gamers away and actually made Two Worlds the laughing stock of the RPG world. The game re...
Red Dead Redemption (3/31/2010) - Chuck McGee
Let me start out by saying that this game was the star of the show at PAX East 2010. Regardless of what time of the day you were on the show floor, and regardless of your credentials - media or otherwise, there was always a full line of people waiting to get their hands on Rockstar’s latest entree in the open-world adventure space, Red Dead Redemption.

I finally got my chance to put my hands on the controller and have a one-on-one session with one of the game’s project managers and I w...
Comic Jumper (3/31/2010) - Brandon Russell
You ARE Captain Smiley! Engage on this everlasting side scrolling platformer full of action and comedy! We had a chance to sit down and run through some of Comic Jumper with Michael Wilford, CEO of Twisted Pixel. While many of the details of the game were still under lock and key, he did give us quite a bit of good information that has us pretty excited for this title. What we can tell you is that this one should definitely be on your radar for games that are a must have. The folks at Twisted Pi...
