This past week I attended the MVP Summit at the Microsoft Headquarters in Washington State. During the Summit I had the opportunity to attend a Capcom hands on session with 3 up and coming games: Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, and Super Street Fighter IV. I had the opportunity to play all of the games and had a wonderful time playing each and every one of them. So let’s get down to it.
Seth Killian, a champion in the world of Street Fighter, was on hand to answer our questions about the games presented as well as just hang out and have some fun with us. I actually should have challenged Seth to some Street Fighter and of course he would have kicked my rear, but we met up at a bowling event on Thursday night where I would have thrown down the hammer on his eliteness. Seth was a great host and a great representative for Capcom. One thing to make note of is that Seth designed the new Official Tournament Controller that we had the opportunity to use. It was a treat.
First up, I sat down with gamertag and fellow MVP Sayper for some Super Street Fighter IV. Prior to my time playing, Sayper had been laying the smack down on SpaceGhost2K, another Xbox MVP. So I sat down to get some revenge for Spacey and I did. Sorry, Sayper. The game was amazing and the controller, which Seth designed, was an absolute treat to use. Graphically the game was the best Street Fighter I have ever seen. The background I found most impressive was the African environment which highlighted well known African wildlife. You will have to see it to believe it, but all I can say is wow.
While playing Sayper decided to play as a character known as Seth in the game. This seemed to be the ultimate character that had all the fighting styles of every character in the game. He was kicking my butt with the character for a while, and Seth Killian walked in behind us and mentioned how he hated this player and how generic he was and powerful he was. It did not hit me that Seth’s name matched the characters name until he had left the room. Again, I will say the game is definitely worth every penny it costs you to purchase it. And you may definitely want to consider purchasing the controller as it makes the gameplay even better than it is with the standard controller.
So after playing Super Street Fighter IV, I headed over to the Dead Rising 2 console to get some hands on. All I can say is, wow. This game is everything and anything that any fan of the franchise would want. You’ll get to wield all new weapons and fight off plenty of zombies. When I say there are plenty of zombies, that’s probably an understatement and does not do justice to the amount of zombies on the screen at one time. The weapons are amazing and the ability to customize and create all new weapons is also present to make this a game with no end. While watching another MVP playing the game, he was able to achieve a certain score threshold which allowed him to hop onto a motorbike with chainsaws attached to the handlebars. All I can say is complete awesomeness.
I moved onto Lost Planet 2 where they allowed us to play as the Gears of War characters and all I can say again is Awesome! The first pre-release build I had a chance to play was at PAX where I was awe over graphics and great co-op gameplay. This time around I was again in awe by even better graphics and great game play. We were introduced into some new levels and new oversized insects to battle and destroy. I can say after participating in our play session I cannot wait until this title is completely done and sitting in my Xbox 360 disc tray.
I have to say hats off to Capcom on showing off some stellar titles that are in the pipeline for release on the 360 for the near future. You can be rest assured that the money you spend on any one of these titles will be well worth it whether it’s for the single player or the multiplayer. A special thanks go out to Seth and the Capcom crew as well as Microsoft for setting up the hands on session. Make sure you have all of these titles on your watch list. |
